The Seven Dwarfs of Menopause

A few years ago, Suzanne Somers identified the 'Seven Dwarfs of Menopause' as... Itchy, Bitchy, Sleepy, Bloated, Sweaty, Forgetful and Psycho. I recall watching her on Oprah and thinking that her remedy to banish the little fellas by taking 40 pills in the morning, 20 pills in the evening, intravaginal estradiol and applications of topical bioidentical estrogen and progesterone indicated that an 8th dwarf "Squirrelly", had joined the group.

Comforted in the thought that I was one of those fortunate women who experience little (if any) discomfort associated with the hormonal shifts of menopause...BAM! With little advance warning,  I am as surprised as the next guy when I suddenly became an itchy, bloated, sweaty, bitchy, forgetful psycho.

The good news: The dwarfs tend to exit within minutes of their arrival.
The bad news: I am left to sheepishly explain just why the dish towel folded over the oven handle incited WW III at the Spotswood residence recently.

A word of warning: It is not in anyone's best interest to discuss my displeasure of trivial matters during a hormone surge. I'm just saying.

Sorry for shouting. It wasn't me. It was "Bitchy and Psycho".

So, as Mr. Something scrambles to turn on a fan, provide me with a glass of ice water and a cold pack, I can't help but tune in to his wistful reminisces of what he refers to as "the good ole days of PMS".

Abigail Grace...yet another Spotswood

Abigail Grace
Should I delay the following announcement  further, I can only expect my step-grandmother status to be tarnished for life....

On Saturday, May 5th 2012 Ben and Kara welcomed their second daughter, Abigail Grace (Annslee's little sister) into the world. Six weeks ahead of schedule, she did time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she experienced a few 'bumps' along the way but finally made it home, safe and sound, on May 23rd.

And on that morning, we couldn't help but notice this view from our front window...

(Full disclosure: One of the glass panes has the frame partially 'photo-shopped' out ; )

Made this step-grandmother feel everything was right in the world.

It took me a little while to jump on the 'Pinterest' bandwagon.

A girl has only just so much time to eat, work, sleep, exercise, party-plan, blog and Facebook. Just sayin'. Adding yet another cyber-activity to my daily routine was asking a lot. But at the invitation and urging of Pinterestophiles out there, I accepted an invitation and began my Pinterestomania by 'just' browsing.

As if.

There is no way that one can 'just browse' Pinterest. Believe me.

For those of you who have yet to enter the world of all things's like flipping through a magazine and cutting out the recipe, outfit, party idea, handbag, exercise routine, newest diet, yada, yada, yada ...and pasting them in a book, pinning them to a bulletin board or tacking them up on the refrigerator except  there is no pesky paste, pins or tacks to deal with. It's all done neatly on your Pinterest page where you choose to create categories or 'boards' for your stuff.

It took me a while.

I've got the hang of it now.

Pinterest 101

Let's say you found a great new recipe for chicken.
Click on the picture and you are directed to the recipe. Create a "Chicken Recipes" category (board) and "Pin it". There you have it. Your "Chicken Recipes" can now forever be neatly filed into your Pinterest page. Just log on to Pinterest and voila.

Yes, I have been known to my friends and family as teetering on the Obsessive-Compulsive brink on occasion. See: "An Organizing Fool"

That being said, my 'boards' include;
  • Fashion and Glamour
  • Fitness
  • Desserts
  • Home
  • Kid Stuff
  • Casseroles
  • Party Ideas
  • Dream Bath Ideas
  • Veggies
  • Holidays
  • DIY
  • Computer Stuff get the idea. There was just not enough hours in a day for this girl to Pinterest adequately.

So I re-categorized my 'boards'...
  • Sunday: Home & Bath
  • Monday: Crockpot & Casseroles
  • Tuesday: Fashion & Beauty
  • Wednesday: Chicken
  • Thursday: Everything Else
  • Friday: Veggies
  • Saturday: Sweets

My point being.. I could just 'pin' to my hearts content, whenever the desire struck me. But, on a daily basis, I would set aside some time to read more about what I have 'pinned'...

Paranoid in South America

Anticipating travel to South America was both exciting and scary. Admittedly, reports of muggings, kidnappings and police corruption go...
